Our three key focus areas
We have identified three priority activities that guide our efforts to help restore and maintain the 47 ha of Zoo Lake. See which project you are most interested in and join our WhatsApp Community to find out more.

Infrastructure Upgrades
This project focuses on facilities and larger structural issues. This includes recreational facilities such as the basketball courts and playgrounds, as well as drain capping, fixing walkways and fences and more.
Join us if you are interested in using tools, painting and doing some heavy lifting.

Environmental Rehabilitation
The gradual restoration of the banks of the lake through an 11-phase process is our flagship program. We also take care of tree-planting and wetland conservation.
Join us if you are interested in gardening and landscaping.

General Maintenance
The park needs continuous TLC to maintain its attractiveness and help keep it clean and safe. This project focuses on everyday maintenance and litter clean-ups.
Join us if you are interested in litter clean-ups and maintaing roadside curbs and pavements.
Will you lend us your time and help us revive and restore Zoo Lake?

![Mandela Day Magic ✨
Heart, hands, and community spirit — what a day! 💛
Zoo Lake, our very own city gem, saw a whole community show up this Mandela Day — braving the winter chill and bringing all the warmth.
Clean-up volunteers rolled up their sleeves, led by the passionate team from Zoo Lake Users Committee (ZLUC). They were joined by the unstoppable energy of learners from Jan Celliers Laerskool en Preprimêr, The Ridge School, St Katharine’s School and Japari School.
A big shout-out to our partners in this effort: @joburgparkszoo, the Environment and Infrastructure Services Department, @fibre.circle, @sothebysrealtywestcliff, SAPRA and the PRA. Community in action!
And the magic didn’t end there...
🌳 Two white pear trees were planted
🎨 A brand-new mosaic was unveiled — celebrating Zoo Lake’s 121st birthday
🧽 Graffiti has been removed from the swimming pool wall thanks to [dot]Good
🎨 The wall got a fresh coat of paint supplied by @duluxrosebank
☕ @theperfectcup.parkview was there keeping everyone warm and fueled!
Madiba’s spirit of service is alive and well. Thank you to every single person who made a difference. 💛
